Nine Australian sports legends embarked on a chilling feat at the iconic MCG in the 10th edition of the EPIC 2024 Big Freeze to support FightMND. The event, held before the Collingwood vs. Melbourne clash, saw former athletes showcasing their creativity and bravery by entering the icy waters. The slide was celebrated by Fox Sports with a panel grading each participant’s performance.

Dressed as the Buffalo Soldier in tribute to Bob Marley and the movie Cool Runnings, Nic Naitanui added flair with Jamaican colors as he smoothly made his way into the ice bath. His comical quote, “I just wanted to make sure I could kiss my lucky egg,” delighted the onlookers.

Olympic champion Sally Pearson opted for a fashionable portrayal of Madonna and greeted the plunge with a spirited screech, emerging with visible shivers. The distinguished James Brayshaw, portrayed as Axl Rose, humorously mentioned, “I’m not an ice bath man,” post his adventurous slide into the cold.

Meg Lanning, embodying Tina Turner, entertained spectators with a near-flip mid-air, showcasing immense enthusiasm. On the other hand, Joel Selwood as Robbie Williams received suggestions for more lively participation from fans and observers.

Decked out as Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil, Mack Horton was in his element, jokingly comparing the cold water to his home swimming experiences. However, Jack Riewoldt‘s performance as Mr. Brightside was critiqued for lacking energy and engagement during his slide.

Erin Phillips embraced the persona of P!nk, with a wish for a trapeze performance, while Pat Rafter charmed as Brian Johnson of AC/DC, quipping about his age and prior ice bath experiences. The entire event was in honor of FightMND advocate Neale Daniher, urging donations towards vital research for curing motor neurone disease.

Australians can catch the action on Kayo featuring the VFL, VFLW, SANFL, WAFL, and the AFL Toyota Premiership Season, engaging sports fans nationwide.
