The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is set to commence on Friday, October 3, with Sharjah, UAE, hosting the tournament opener. Following a remarkable history, defending champions Australia are gearing up to secure a fourth consecutive title, adding to their already impressive record.

Australia has won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup championship six times, emerging as a dominant force in the tournament. Under the leadership of seasoned player Alyssa Healy, and with Tahlia McGrath serving as vice-captain, the team enters their third straight title defense in the UAE.

The opening matches for the tournament are scheduled for October 4 at the Dubai International Stadium, where South Africa will face West Indies in a Group B match at 2:00 PM local time, followed by India versus New Zealand in a Group A match at 6:00 PM local time.

Australia’s fixtures begin on October 5, where they are set to meet Sri Lanka at 7:30 PM in Sharjah. They will face strong opposition throughout the group stages, with matches against New Zealand, Pakistan, and India slated in group A, also known as the “group of death.”

The Australian squad comprises notable players, including Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, and Megan Schutt. Statistically, Australia boasts a winning percentage of over 80 in the tournament, highlighting their formidable presence on the global stage. Their toughest competitors are England, with a 75% winning percentage, who have also secured one world title.

Cricket fans in India can view live broadcasts of Australia’s matches via the Star Sports Network, with streaming available on the Disney Plus Hotstar app and website.

This edition of the World Cup marks the ninth instance of the competition. Alongside Australia, England and the West Indies have clinched the championship, each securing the title once since the tournament’s inception.
