Australia’s Josh Inglis Misses Hilarious Run-Out Chance in 1st ODI Against West Indies
Australia’s wicketkeeper Josh Inglis had a moment of embarrassment during the 1st ODI against West Indies as he missed a comical run-out opportunity. The match took place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Stadium, where Inglis found himself off-focus in the 47th over of the first innings.
The incident occurred when Inglis had a clear-cut chance to run out Gudakesh Motie, but he somehow mucked it up despite the batter being miles away from his mark. In the 47th over, Inglis collected a throw from deep cover off Travis Head, and all he had to do was dislodge the bails. However, in a moment of mishap, Inglis failed to execute the run-out even as Motie struggled to get back after attempting a third run. The entire episode was captured on camera, leaving the commentators in fits of laughter.
Australia’s dominance in the first innings was noteworthy, as they bowled out West Indies for a mere 231 runs. Debutant Xavier Bartlett shone by grabbing four crucial wickets, receiving support from Sean Abbott and Chris Green who both took two wickets each. Leg spinner Adam Zampa managed to pick up one wicket from his 10 overs. Lance Morris and Matt Short were the only Australian bowlers who remained wicketless on the day.
It’s worth mentioning that West Indies entered this ODI series off the back of a tremendous victory against Australia in a Test match earlier. The Windies defeated the Aussies in the previous Test, spearheaded by the brilliant spell from Shamar Joseph, who is shaping up to be West Indies’ next pace sensation. However, the ODI team is now under the leadership of Shai Hope, who unfortunately only managed to score 12 runs in this match. Keacy Carty emerged as the highest run-scorer for the Windies, playing a fine knock of 88 runs off 108 balls.
At the time of writing, Australia was chasing the target, standing at 158/2 after 25 overs. Batsmen Cameron Green and Steve Smith were at the crease, with Green nearing his second ODI fifty. Despite his earlier missed run-out chance, Josh Inglis played a blistering innings, scoring a quickfire 65 runs off just 43 balls.
