Australia’s Performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympics
Australia has proudly fielded 158 para-athletes across 17 sports at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, which commenced with the Opening Ceremony on August 29 and will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on September 9.
Among the sports represented, para athletics, with 34 athletes, and para swimming, with 30 members, stand out as the most represented for Australia at this year’s event. These two sports have also been the most successful for the nation throughout the history of the Paralympics, collectively accounting for 486 and 453 medals, respectively.
At the previous Paralympic Games, held in Tokyo in 2020, Australia achieved remarkable success by winning 80 medals, including 21 gold medals.
The pinnacle of Australia’s performance in the Paralympic Games occurred on home soil during the Sydney 2000 Games, where the country topped the medals tally, securing a total of 149 medals: 63 gold, 39 silver, and 47 bronze.
Notably, Australia has been a consistent participant in every Paralympic Games since their inception in 1960. As of now, at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Australia has already secured four medals, comprising one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
