Australia Women's Cricket Team T20 World Cup 2024

In a decisive encounter at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, Australia triumphed over New Zealand by a 60-run margin in their Group A clash. The match, held in Sharjah, further solidified Australia’s position as the top contender in their group.

The Australian team, led by captain Alyssa Healy, elected to bat after winning the toss. Healy set a brisk pace with her opening partner Beth Mooney, adding 41 runs for the first wicket. Healy was eventually dismissed for 26. Mooney continued to bat effectively, contributing 40 runs, and was supported by Ellyse Perry, who scored 30.

Despite a promising start, Australia was restrained by New Zealand’s bowlers Amelia Kerr and Brooke Halliday. Kerr’s impressive spell saw her taking four wickets for 26 runs, while Halliday supported well with two wickets, limiting Australia to 148 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

New Zealand, facing a challenging target, faltered as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Suzi Bates and Amelia Kerr attempted to stabilize the innings with scores of 20 and 29, respectively. However, the Australian bowlers, particularly Megan Schutt and Annabel Sutherland, were relentless. Schutt claimed three wickets for just three runs in her 3.2 overs, while Sutherland also scalped three wickets, dismantling the New Zealand batting line-up for a mere 88 runs in 19.2 overs.

This victory places Australia at the top of their group with four points, while New Zealand must now contest with India and other teams for a possible spot in the semifinals.

The comprehensive win underscores Australia’s strong form in the tournament, following their previous victory against Sri Lanka, and signals their continued dominance in women’s cricket.
