Australian Comedians Roast John Cleese In Hilarious Tribute Event

Renowned Australian comedians gathered at the Palladium at Crown for a unique event, ‘The Roast of John Cleese,’ led by host Shane Jacobson. The comedic tribute to the iconic Fawlty Towers star was recorded last year and aired on Channel Seven recently.

The star-studded lineup of roasters included Tom Gleeson, Joel Creasey, Christie Whelan Browne, Steve Vizard, Lehmo, Alex Lee, Lawrence Mooney, Damien Power, Stephen Hall, and entertainer Rhonda Burchmore. The event drew laughter and applause from the audience as the comedians took turns poking fun at the 84-year-old comedy legend.

Setting the tone for the evening, Steve Vizard kicked off the roast with a humorous jab at Cleese, joking about the effort required to get him to the event. Despite the playful jabs, there was a sense of admiration for Cleese’s immense contribution to modern comedy.

The highlight of the night came from Gold Logie winner Tom Gleeson, who fearlessly delved into controversial topics, drawing parallels between Cleese and other 80s comedy figures like Bill Cosby and Rolf Harris. Cleese, in good spirits, took the jokes in stride, adding to the jovial atmosphere.

The event culminated in a heartwarming moment with a surprise guest appearance by Camilla Cleese, the comedian’s daughter, who made the journey from England to join her father on this memorable occasion.
