Australian Open 2024: Dane Sweeny And Adam Walton Make Grand Slam Debut

Two Australian tennis players are set to fulfill their lifelong dreams as they make their highly anticipated debuts at the Australian Open 2024. Dane Sweeny and Adam Walton, both representing their home country, have qualified for the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament.

Ranked at world No. 257, the 22-year-old Sweeny expressed his awe at the realization of his once-imagined dream. After excelling in the qualifying rounds, he has secured a place in the main draw and is ready to face world No. 22 Francisco Cerundolo in his opening-round match at Melbourne Park’s John Cain Arena.

Walton, a 24-year-old wildcard player, will kick off his campaign at Kia Arena. Currently ranked at world No. 167, Walton had an impressive 2023 season, which helped boost his ranking. In his first-round match, he will go up against world No. 41 Matteo Arnaldi.

Adding excitement to the mix, Australian Open doubles champion Jason Kubler will also take part in the tournament at Kia Arena. Kubler, who claimed the doubles title in the previous year’s edition, is set to face off against world No. 89 Daniel Elahi Galan.

Additionally, Chris O’Connell, who experienced a memorable run in the Australian Open as a wildcard ranked No. 175 in 2022, will return to Court 3. The court holds significant sentimental value for O’Connell, as it was the stage for his exhilarating third-round match two years ago. Now ranked world No. 71, O’Connell hopes to recreate the electrifying atmosphere and secure another remarkable performance.
