Australian middle-distance runner Jessica Hull has captured the world’s attention by breaking the women’s 2,000 meters world record at the Monaco Diamond League meet. Hull’s astounding performance solidifies her position as a strong contender for an Olympic medal.

Hull’s remarkable run saw her clock an impressive time of 5:19.70, surpassing the previous world record set by Genzebe Dibaba in 2018. Just days before this historic achievement, the 27-year-old athlete set a new Australian and Oceania record in the 1,500 meters at the Paris Diamond League, finishing second behind Faith Kipyegon from Nairobi who also established a new world record.

Reflecting on her extraordinary feat, Hull expressed her gratitude for the support she received from the crowd during her record-breaking race in Monaco. She mentioned the unique use of green lights on the track to signify world record pace, igniting her determination to secure the record.

Despite feeling the fatigue from her recent races, including her performance in Paris, Hull exhibited exceptional strength and resilience during her world record run. She emphasized the physical and mental fortitude required to reach such a milestone in her career.

Having previously finished 11th in the 1,500 meters final at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Hull enters this year’s tournament with newfound confidence and a strong performance record. Her recent achievements have made her a notable figure in the world of athletics.
