DENVER, Colo. — The Colorado Avalanche will try to extend their successful homestand to four games tonight against the San Jose Sharks at Ball Arena. Coming off a solid 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Avalanche are focused on completing their season series sweep of the Sharks.

The Avalanche first clashed with the Sharks earlier this season, winning both encounters 4-1 and 4-2, respectively. With a current record of 3-0-0 during this homestand, Colorado is looking for continued momentum as they make a final push for the playoffs.

Last game, Artturi Lehkonen scored twice, and Scott Wedgewood earned first-star honors after stopping 32 of 33 shots. “He was unbelievable…made some crazy saves,” said defenseman Ryan Lindgren, praising Wedgewood’s play against Pittsburgh. Nathan MacKinnon also shone brightly, leading the NHL with 93 points and achieving multiple 70-assist seasons, joining legends Peter Stastny and Peter Forsberg in Avalanche history.

In contrast, the Sharks were buoyed by their own recent success, defeating the Buffalo Sabres 6-2 on Tuesday. Timothy Liljegren opened the score for San Jose and was later joined by teammates William Eklund, Will Smith, Tyler Toffoli, and Macklin Celebrini, all contributing to the Sharks’ dominant victory. This marked the end of an eight-game winless streak for the Sharks.

Eklund leads the Sharks with 46 points, and Toffoli stands out with 24 goals. The Avalanche have been impressive on defense recently, allowing only 2.46 goals per game since January 1, the fifth best in the NHL.

The two teams’ most recent matchups have shown a favorable trend for the Avalanche, but the Sharks are hungry to continue building on their recent performance. As the puck drops at 7:30 p.m. MT, both sides aim to assert their strengths on the ice and secure valuable points in the playoff race.
