Avalanche Captain Landeskog Returns After Nearly Three-Year Hiatus

LOVELAND, Colo. — After nearly three years sidelined due to injuries, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is set to return to the ice. He will play with the AHL‘s Colorado Eagles on Friday against the Henderson Silver Knights, marking his first game since June 26, 2022, when he contributed to the Avalanche’s third Stanley Cup title.
Landeskog’s return follows a significant knee surgery for a cartilage transplant that kept him out of professional play. During his recovery, he has engaged in conditioning with the Eagles, a crucial step toward rejoining the Avalanche ahead of the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs.
“I’ve been working hard to get back to this point,” Landeskog said after a recent practice. “It’s exciting to finally lace up my skates again and be part of a game under the AHL banner.” His return game will be streamed live across various platforms including FloHockey’s YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
The Eagles have five regular-season games left before the Calder Cup Playoffs and currently lead the Pacific Division. Landeskog’s ability to play in up to three of these games is critical as he aims to regain his game readiness.
During morning skate on Thursday, Landeskog practiced alongside teammates Taylor Makar and Oskar Olausson. Head coach Jared Bednar confirmed that Landeskog would only participate in games when fully healthy. “We’re taking it step by step; we want him ready for the playoffs if he can manage it,” Bednar stated.
Tickets for Landeskog’s return game have seen a surge in demand, reflecting fans’ excitement. Resale prices have ranged from $88 to over $1,000, significantly higher than typical rates, according to ticket platforms such as Ticketmaster and StubHub.
“This building is sold out nearly every game, and adding Gabriel back to the lineup really amps up the interest,” said Kevin McGlue, the Eagles’ communications head. “Some fans may want to consider standing-room options in our Voodoo Ranger Lounge to catch the action.”
As the game approaches, anticipation builds for Landeskog’s performance, which may offer a glimpse into his readiness for the NHL’s postseason competition against teams like the Dallas Stars. “This could be a huge development for him and the team as the playoffs near,” commented sports analyst Adrian Hernandez. “A successful performance could speed up his return to the Avalanche lineup.”
Friday’s matchup kicks off at 7:05 p.m. MT at the Loveland Events Center, and fans can watch the game live on FloHockey’s streaming services.
