Azeez Ojulari Philadelphia Eagles Contract Signing

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Veteran edge rusher Azeez Ojulari has signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, following the end of his rookie deal with the New York Giants, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday.

Ojulari, 24, had a noteworthy performance last season, recording six sacks in 11 games for the Giants. He joins the Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl champions, as they look to bolster their defensive lineup after losing defensive end Brandon Graham in free agency.

Selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia, Ojulari demonstrated significant potential during his rookie year, accumulating eight sacks in 17 games. However, injuries have plagued his career, limiting him to only seven games in 2022 and contributing to a decrease in performance in 2023. He faced a variety of injuries, including calf, ankle, and quad issues over the past two seasons.

This past season, Ojulari showed flashes of his abilities by achieving five sacks in a three-game span when teammate Kayvon Thibodeaux was sidelined. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a ligament injury in his big toe, which did not require surgery. As a result, he was placed on injured reserve while the Giants faced a challenging season and ultimately missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

During his four seasons in the NFL, Ojulari has recorded 107 tackles and 22 sacks. Notably, he had a breakthrough season when he was a rookie, contributing significantly to the Giants’ defense under former head coach Joe Judge.

Ojulari’s potential remains high, and with a change of scenery in Philadelphia, he aims to regain his 2021 form. The Eagles, who finished last season atop the NFC standings, hope Ojulari’s signing will lead to further defensive success.
