BALWIN, Hawaii (May 7, 2025) — The Baldwin Bears defeated the Kailua Surfriders 3-1 in the opening round of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Division I Baseball Championships on Wednesday at Iron Maehara Stadium.

Pitcher Kaden Anderson earned the win, showcasing a stellar performance with four innings pitched, one hit allowed, two walks, and two strikeouts on 55 pitches. Kip Watanabe closed the game, giving up one run over three innings with two strikeouts and receiving a save.

The game started slowly, with neither team scoring in the first three innings. That changed in the fourth inning when Baldwin capitalized on fielding errors by Kailua, leading to two runs. Devyn Rosaga opened with a leadoff double, and pinch runner Eli Nouchi, along with Laakea Ko, scored on a single by Kaedyn Miyake-Matsubayashi.

Kailua managed to narrow the gap in the sixth inning with Brandon Moore‘s double, bringing home Ryce Aoki. However, Baldwin extended its lead in the seventh when Marley Sebastian’s single scored Miyake-Matsubayashi.

Miyake-Matsubayashi contributed significantly, recording two hits, scoring once, and driving in two runs. This strong team effort helped secure Baldwin’s advancement in the tournament.
