Barcelona Coach Flick Plans Squad Rotation Ahead of Crucial Valencia Clash
BARCELONA, Spain — FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick confirmed plans to rotate his squad ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash against Valencia, as the team looks to rebound from a recent dip in form. The Blaugrana, currently third in the league table, face a Valencia side battling relegation at the Estadi Olímpic.
“We need fresh legs to face Valencia,” Flick said during his pre-match press conference on Saturday. “There are changes planned in the team.” The German coach hinted at resting key players, including midfielder Pedri, who has been instrumental this season. “At the moment, he is playing at 100% and very well. He may not be in the starting eleven,” Flick added.
Barcelona’s recent struggles in La Liga have seen them fall behind rivals Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Despite their Super Cup final victory over Real Madrid and a dramatic Champions League comeback against Benfica, the team has struggled to maintain consistency in domestic competition. “It may seem that in the league we have not been at 100%, and that is something we have to change,” Flick admitted.
Valencia, meanwhile, has shown defensive improvement under their current setup. Flick acknowledged the challenge, stating, “Valencia have improved a lot in defence. We have to create chances, and it will not be easy.”
Off the pitch, Barcelona has secured contract extensions for key players Ronald Araujo and Gerard Martín. Flick praised the club’s management, particularly sporting director Deco, for their efforts. “The Club and Deco are doing a great job. We are looking for new players, but the most important thing is to talk with the ones we have,” he said.
With a crucial Champions League match against Atalanta looming next Wednesday, Flick’s rotation strategy aims to balance squad fitness and competitive demands. Barcelona fans will hope the changes pay off as the team seeks to close the gap at the top of La Liga.
