Barcelona Dominates Athletic in Camp Nou Return with 4-0 Victory
Barcelona, Spain — FC Barcelona marked their return to the redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou with a decisive 4-0 victory against Athletic Club on November 22, 2025. The game attracted 45,157 spectators, celebrating a significant milestone for the club after over two years away from the historic venue.
The match kicked off with energy as Barcelona quickly took control. In just the fourth minute, Robert Lewandowski scored the first official goal of the new stadium, capitalizing on a defensive error by Athletic. His shot found the back of the net, setting the tone for the match.
Barcelona maintained pressure throughout the first half, with Balde contributing significantly on the left flank. Despite attempts from Athletic, including close chances for Unai Gómez and Nico Williams, they failed to convert. Just before the break, Ferran Torres doubled the lead after receiving a brilliant assist from Fermín.
In the second half, Barça continued to dominate. Fermín scored the third goal in the 48th minute, combining well with his teammates. The game took a turn when Athletic’s Oihan Sancet received a red card for a dangerous challenge on Fermín, further hampering their chances.
Ferran would later net his second goal, sealing the match in the dying minutes after a VAR review confirmed the goal was legitimate despite an initial offside call.
Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. ‘Returning to Camp Nou is a special day for us,’ he remarked. ‘We played well, and the atmosphere was incredible.’
The win places Barcelona at the top of La Liga, tied on points with Real Madrid but ahead on goal difference. Meanwhile, Athletic will need to regroup as they continue to seek improvement in their standings.
