Barcelona Real Madrid El Clasico

BARCELONA, Spain — FC Barcelona faces Real Madrid on Sunday, May 11, in the final El Clásico of the season, a match critical for the La Liga title. With only four games remaining, Barcelona leads Real Madrid by four points.

Barcelona recently suffered a heart-wrenching exit from the Champions League semifinals against Inter Milan. Despite this setback, they remain confident after winning their last three encounters against Real Madrid this season, including a 3-2 victory in the Copa del Rey final two weeks ago.

One key player missing for Barcelona is forward Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to miss this crucial match due to a hamstring injury. Coach Hansi Flick must also deal with injuries to other players, notably Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé.

Flick expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to perform despite the recent defeat and emphasized the importance of reclaiming momentum. “We have to win. We want to win. This is our mentality,” he said in a pre-match press conference.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, comes into this game well-rested after a week without a match. They secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo in their last outing. However, they have their own injury issues, including the absence of Antonio Rüdiger and Eduardo Camavinga.

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s manager, noted that despite ongoing speculation about his future with the club, the team’s focus remains on the match at hand. “You have to give them the clearest possible ideas about how they should play the match,” he explained.

The match is set to kick off at 4:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) at Montjuïc Stadium in Barcelona. A Barcelona victory would place them in a strong position to clinch the title, while Real Madrid will be fighting to narrow the gap and keep their championship hopes alive.

As the stage is set for what promises to be a thrilling encounter, both teams remain hopeful of achieving their goals during this critical juncture of the season.
