FC Barcelona Plans Friendly Match in Peru Amid Scheduling Challenges
Barcelona, Spain — FC Barcelona is working to schedule a friendly match in Peru on December 22, potentially generating between €7 and €8 million for the club. However, coordinating this match has presented logistical challenges.
The club has requested La Liga to permit them to play against Villarreal on December 20. Additionally, Barcelona is in discussions with the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) to manage players’ holiday schedules appropriately.
Barcelona is eager to accept the proposal for the friendly in Peru. Their last La Liga match before the holiday break is set to be away against Villarreal, originally scheduled for Miami.
With this match now planned for La Ceramica, the club hopes to transition quickly to Peru for a game featuring players from the Peruvian league at the Estadio Monumental.
For this plan to move forward, La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) must first receive an official offer from the Peruvian promoter, validating Barcelona’s request.
Moreover, the club is keen to ensure that players can enjoy their holiday season. Barcelona is scheduled to face Espanyol on January 3 or 4, meaning players would need to resume training at least five or six days prior to that match.
While securing the friendly in December is a priority due to its financial benefits, the club is prepared to postpone if necessary, aiming for a future agreement on the match.
