Ronald Araujo Barcelona Juventus Transfer News

FC Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has informed his teammates and coaching staff that he will not renew his contract with the club and plans to join Juventus, according to reports from Spanish media. The 25-year-old Uruguayan center-back has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Italian giants, marking a significant shift in his career.

Araujo, who has been a key figure in Barcelona’s defense, has allegedly communicated his decision to head coach Hansi Flick and the team’s captains. Sources indicate that he has expressed reluctance to play in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, further fueling speculation about his imminent departure.

Italian outlets, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and La Repubblica, have reported that Juventus has proposed a deal involving an initial loan with an obligation to buy Araujo in the summer. Barcelona, however, is said to be holding out for a transfer fee in the range of $71.8-82 million (€70-80 million).

During a pre-match press conference, Flick addressed the rumors surrounding Araujo, stating, ‘When I started as a coach, I saw that there were many rumors. Ronald has returned from a terrible injury and is now strong enough to play. He’s a good option and very professional. It’s not my job to talk about rumors, but I want him in my team. He is one of the best defenders.’

Araujo’s potential move comes as Juventus seeks to bolster its defense following injuries to key players Bremer and Juan Cabal. The Uruguayan’s contract with Barcelona expires in June 2026, but his desire to leave ‘as soon as possible’ could accelerate negotiations.

Spanish outlet Fontes reported that Araujo has been vocal about his intentions, telling colleagues and anyone who would listen that he wishes to depart Barcelona. With his contract entering its final year this summer, Juventus may opt to wait, potentially securing the defender at a reduced price.
