BARCELONA, Spain — The 2025 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell has become a hub for sports stars, combining tennis with the excitement of celebrity sightings. This week, footballers Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Eric Garcia attended the ATP 500 event, cheering on top seed Carlos Alcaraz during his match on Wednesday.

During the match, Alcaraz secured a victory over Laslo Djere, showcasing his formidable skills on clay. Post-match, Torres met Alcaraz at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899’s famous swimming pool, where Alcaraz humorously pretended to push Torres into the water. “On Sunday, on Sunday!” Torres jokingly responded, referring to the traditional ceremonial dip the champion takes.

The following day, Danish defender Andreas Christensen made his appearance, rooting for fellow countryman Holger Rune. Rune pulled off an upset against defending champion Casper Ruud, ending Ruud’s streak of seven consecutive wins at the tournament. After the match, Christensen and Rune celebrated with a selfie alongside Karen Khachanov, who advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Ruud, currently facing challenges that threaten his top ten ranking, has yet to earn a title in 2025. He described the competitive nature of today’s tennis. “Over the last 20-25 years, there were three or four players who dominated and shared most of the tournaments,” Ruud stated. “Nowadays, everything is more open.” He acknowledged the rising talents of Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, admitting, “Although for me, Alcaraz and Sinner have been the two best over the last three years.”

Ruud, who has historically struggled against these rivals, noted their intense motivation to win. The next clash between Alcaraz and Ruud is highly anticipated, with both players atop the Barcelona tournament seeding. Their past encounters have all been electrifying, leaving fans eager for another showdown.

As players prepare for the quarterfinals, Ruud will face Rune, while Alcaraz is set to go up against Djere. The tournament has already drawn significant attention, and predictions for the eventual champion are rampant among fans and analysts alike.

Ruud commented on the pressures of ranking, saying, “It’s best not to think about it too much. The ranking doesn’t stress me out, and if I fall out of the top ten, my life won’t change.” However, securing another Barcelona Open title would solidify his status and alleviate some of that pressure.

The competition continues to intensify at the Barcelona Open, as players vie for a coveted spot in the finals. Alcaraz and Ruud, with histories of exceptional performances at the venue, will be closely watched in the upcoming rounds.
