Baroka Fc Chairman Defends Decision To Suspend Coach Amid Promotion Fight

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has staunchly defended his recent controversial move in suspending head coach Dan Malesela amidst their crucial bid for promotion in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The team, also known as Bakgaga, engaged in a heated battle against the University of Pretoria in a pivotal PSL Relegation/Promotion Playoff match at the Global Stadium.

The encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, marking Baroka’s second consecutive game with interim coach Morgan Mammila at the helm.

Currently with only two points on the table, Baroka’s hopes for promotion hinge on the outcomes of matches involving AmaTuks and Richards Bay FC.

Mphahlele, however, remains resolute and believes that Baroka still has a shot at securing promotion. He emphasizes that accountability must be shared if the team falls short of their objective.

The chairman expressed, “No, why should I take the blame? Everyone participated. All of us failed.” He went on to highlight critical moments where the team could have improved their standing during the league competition.

Mphahlele dismissed criticisms surrounding the decision to suspend Malesela, stating, “He lost the match [against AmaTuks]. He was going to lose other matches. There was no guarantee that after losing the first match, he would not lose other matches.”

He further emphasized the need for accountability and highlighted past shortcomings that could have impacted the team’s performance significantly.
