Bud Daley, a notable former Major League Baseball pitcher and two-time World Series winner, has died at the age of 92. The announcement was made by the New York Yankees, the team with which Daley clinched his World Series victories in 1961 and 1962. “The Yankees mourn the passing of Bud Daley and extend our deepest condolences to Bud’s family, friends, and loved ones,” the team stated on Saturday.

Daley, who turned 92 on October 7, died on October 15, just days after his birthday. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his companion of 72 years, as well as their four children and eight grandchildren.

During Daley’s decade-long career in professional baseball, he played as a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Athletics before joining the ranks of the Yankees. Apart from his two World Series titles, Daley was recognized as a four-time All-Star.

Coinciding with news of Daley’s passing, the Yankees are currently competing against the Cleveland Guardians for a berth in this year’s World Series. As of Saturday night, the Yankees held a series lead of 3-1, with Game 5 taking place in Cleveland.

The winning team from the series will advance to face either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Mets, as the MLB playoffs progress towards the World Series.
