Florian Wirtz Bayern Liverpool Transfer News

BERLIN, Germany — Bayern Munich and Liverpool are in fierce competition to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, who is 22 years old. As rumors swirl about his future, the clubs are vying for his talents ahead of the transfer window.

News emerged on May 23, 2025, that Wirtz has been looking at houses in another city, intensifying speculation about his possible move. Rudi Völler, the sporting director of the German Football Association (DFB), acknowledged the situation during a Telekom event in Berlin. “Of course, I still have a heart for Leverkusen. My favorite solution would be for Florian to stay another year before making a move. Everything is open; nothing is decided yet,” he said.

Völler, who is seen as an insider in the football world, still maintains an office at the Leverkusen stadium. With a smile, he added, “I honestly don’t know anymore. The good thing is, I don’t have to lie to answer that question.”

Asked whether it bothers him that Wirtz’s future might remain unresolved during the Nations League Final Four from June 4 to 8, Völler remarked, “No problem. He is a professional.”

Wirtz is not the only player facing uncertainty. Leroy Sané, 29, and Jonathan Tah, 29, of Leverkusen also have uncertain futures as the tournament in Germany approaches.

In related news, the preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are coming together. The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, featuring 48 teams—the most ever. Telekom’s MagentaTV recently secured the broadcast rights for all 104 matches.

Telekom’s Wolfgang Metze expressed excitement about the deal. “We are pleased to have secured this rights coup. Our clients will be able to access all games, highlights, clips, and interviews on all devices, whether at home, commuting, or on vacation,” he stated.

The recent acquisition also includes rights for the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and the U20 World Cups in 2025 and 2027, totaling 272 games in the package. The announcement of José Barcala as the new coach for the Bayern women’s team has also sparked ambitions for European dominance in the upcoming season.

As teams continue to prepare for future competitions, the excitement in football circles remains palpable as transfers and tournament preparations unfold.
