Baylor Dominates Texas State 19-3 in Midweek Game

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Baylor Bears achieved a commanding 19-3 victory over Texas State on Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark, marking the largest margin of victory in the tenure of head coach Mitch Thompson.
The win improves Baylor’s record to 15-5 overall and extends their unbeaten streak in midweek games to ten consecutive matches. After trailing 3-1 in the first inning, the Bears exploded with 18 unanswered runs, highlighted by a ten-run sixth inning.
“I liked that we played really good defense,” Thompson said. “Every guy out there did a nice job. We had some fantastic at-bats, and you’ve gotta like a 19-3 road win. There’s lots of stuff to be happy about tonight.”
Baylor’s offensive display included three home runs, with redshirt senior Enzo Apodaca leading the charge. Apodaca went 3-for-3, with four RBIs and a career-high five runs scored. He attributed his performance to a more relaxed approach at the plate: “Today, I just tried slowing everything down…simplifying things and seeing the ball down the middle,” he explained.
Texas State had a promising start, gaining an early lead when senior catcher Ian Collier hit a three-run home run, making it 3-1 in the first. However, the Bears quickly regained control, scoring four runs in the third inning before extending their lead with back-to-back home runs from Apodaca and senior designated hitter Wesley Jordan in the fifth.
The pivotal sixth inning saw Baylor bat around nearly twice, sending 14 men to the plate and scoring 10 runs on just four hits, capitalizing on three Texas State defensive errors. Senior center fielder Ty Johnson recorded a two-run single during the inning, helping to push the lead to overwhelming proportions.
“It was a huge inning for us,” Johnson said. “We were able to capitalize on everything they gave us.”
Left-handed pitcher Caleb Jameson earned the victory for Baylor, striking out four in two innings of work. The Baylor bullpen followed up effectively, with Andrew Petrowski, Camden Clewett, Stefan Stahl, Patrick Hail, and Caleb Bunch each tossing a scoreless inning.
Despite the loss, Texas State will look to rebound this weekend as they prepare for a three-game conference series at home against Arkansas State, which enters the matchup with a 10-10 overall record.
First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 6 p.m. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
