India Bangladesh T20 Cricket Match

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced criticism during the India-Bangladesh T20 match held in Gwalior after a notable oversight was discovered in the name printed on a player’s jersey. The match, which resulted in a victory for India by seven wickets, saw two Indian cricketers, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy, making their international debuts. Although Mayank Yadav secured a wicket, the attention shifted towards Nitish Kumar Reddy due to a mistake on his jersey.

As Reddy took to the field, an error in the spelling of his name became apparent, with ‘Nitesh’ printed on his jersey instead of the correct ‘Nitish’. The incorrect spelling sparked confusion and speculation among spectators, questioning whether Reddy had changed the spelling of his name.

According to sources, the official name of the cricketer remains Nitish, and the error is attributed to a logistical mishap by BCCI’s logistics team. Additionally, Adidas, the company responsible for manufacturing the Indian cricket team kits, has also been implicated in the error due to the misspelling.

The young cricketer’s performance was noteworthy despite the jersey issue. Reddy, who bowled two overs giving away 17 runs without taking a wicket, made an impact with the bat by scoring an unbeaten 16 runs in 15 balls including a six from the fourth batting spot. His performance follows an impressive stint in IPL 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he accumulated 303 runs and took 3 wickets.

Amidst the jersey controversy, discussions have emerged around Reddy’s prospects in IPL 2025. It has been suggested that the franchise might retain him through a Right to Match (RTM) card, potentially requiring an expenditure of at least 11 crores to secure his services.
