PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop ignited conversation on social media after posting a video on Instagram showing him wiping his feet on the Pitt logo. The video, captured by a fan and shared on X, features Bishop at the Steelers’ and University of Pittsburgh’s shared facility.

Bishop, who played one season for the West Virginia Mountaineers, knows the significance of the Backyard Brawl rivalry between WVU and Pitt. He expressed strong feelings against Pitt, a sentiment he shared with fans during the week leading up to last year’s game.

During that week, Bishop recalled how Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi was worried that he and his former WVU teammates would spy on the Panthers. Narduzzi allegedly locked doors to keep the Mountaineers away from the team and instructed staff to remove them if they tried to enter.

In his only game against the Panthers, Bishop made an impact with seven tackles and an interception, further fueling his dislike for the rival team.

On Tuesday, Bishop discussed the rivalry, stating his belief that the Backyard Brawl should be an annual fixture. “Yeah, for sure. Just like every other rivalry. It’s hatred. You don’t have no respect for those guys,” he stated. He suggested that the game should occur later in the season, similar to traditional rivalries in college football.

Bishop’s remarks reflect a strong desire for this storied rivalry to regain its former prominence, though it is currently set to pause until 2029, unless schedule changes occur.
