Bears Interview David Shaw, Others for Offensive Coordinator Role
CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Bears are making significant progress in assembling their coaching staff for the 2025 season, with multiple candidates emerging for the offensive coordinator position. Among them is former Stanford head coach David Shaw, who is being considered for the role, according to a league source.
Shaw, 52, who served as a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos this season, was one of 17 candidates interviewed by the Bears for their head coaching vacancy earlier this year. Shaw has a storied coaching history, including an 11-year tenure as Stanford’s head coach from 2011 to 2022 and previous NFL experience with the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, and Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bears are also interviewing Denver Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle, who has two seasons of experience in his current role and previously spent four years as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints. Additionally, NFL Network reported that Bo Hardegree, who worked as an offensive assistant for the Bears in 2015 and most recently served as quarterbacks coach for the Tennessee Titans, is in the mix.
Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork is another candidate under consideration, according to CBS. Woolfork has spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals after a stint with the Cleveland Browns.
On the defensive side, multiple sources indicate that former Saints and Raiders head coach Dennis Allen is a strong candidate for the defensive coordinator position. The Bears are also reportedly interviewing Minnesota Vikings defensive pass game coordinator Daronte Jones, who has ties to Bears head coach Matt Johnson from their time together with the Miami Dolphins.
The Bears have already made several coaching hires, including Antwaan Randle El as wide receivers coach, J.T. Barrett as quarterbacks coach, and Al Harris as secondary coach. Richard Hightower is expected to remain as special teams coordinator.
No official announcements have been made, but the Bears are moving swiftly to finalize their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season.
