Bears Request Interview with Ravens OC Todd Monken for Head Coach Role
The Chicago Bears have requested permission to interview Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for their head coaching vacancy, according to sources. Monken, 58, has emerged as a top candidate after leading the Ravens’ offense to a dominant 2024 season, ranking No. 1 in total yards and No. 3 in points scored.
Monken’s coaching career spans over three decades, with stints in both college and the NFL. He began his NFL journey in 2007 as the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ wide receivers coach before serving as head coach at Southern Miss from 2013 to 2015. Monken later became the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-2018) and Cleveland Browns (2019) before joining the University of Georgia, where he helped secure back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.
Since joining the Ravens in 2023, Monken has revitalized their offense, particularly elevating quarterback Lamar Jackson‘s passing game. Under Monken’s guidance, Jackson has posted career-high passing numbers, solidifying his MVP candidacy. The Ravens’ offense also led the league in rushing yards and ranked seventh in passing yards in 2024.
Monken’s success has not gone unnoticed, with multiple NFL teams reportedly interested in his services. The Bears, in particular, are seeking an offensive-minded coach to address their longstanding struggles. Chicago holds the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Monken’s ability to develop quarterbacks could be a key factor in their decision.
Despite the interest, Monken has not publicly expressed a desire to leave Baltimore. His current role as an elite offensive coordinator has yielded impressive results, and his stock as a potential head coach continues to rise. The Bears’ interview request marks the latest chapter in Monken’s storied coaching career, which could soon include a head coaching opportunity in the NFL.
