CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have signed former All-Pro return specialist Devin Duvernay to a one-year contract, bolstering their special teams unit ahead of the upcoming NFL season. The announcement was made by FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz on March 19, 2025.

Duvernay, 27, brings a wealth of experience and accolades to Chicago, having earned two Pro Bowl selections during his tenure in the league. The wide receiver was a third-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2020 NFL Draft after a standout career at the University of Texas, where he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors.

During his time with the Ravens, Duvernay made a name for himself as one of the top return specialists in the NFL. He was selected as a first-team All-Pro in 2021, leading the league with an average of 13.8 yards per punt return. In that season alone, he totaled 360 yards across 26 punt returns. His proficiency on special teams earned him a second Pro Bowl selection in 2022, where he recorded a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Ravens opted not to renew Duvernay’s contract after four seasons, leading him to sign a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year. However, following the Jaguars’ significant roster changes under new management, Duvernay was released earlier this month after appearing in 13 games for Jacksonville in the 2024 season. He recorded 11 receptions for 79 yards and contributed on special teams with 167 punt return yards and 351 kick return yards.

“I’m excited for this new chapter in Chicago,” Duvernay said in a statement. “The Bears have a rich history, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”

As the Bears continue to address their special teams struggles from last season, Duvernay’s addition is seen as a strategic move to enhance their return game. Last season, the Bears relied on a journeyman kicker-return specialist, and the team hopes Duvernay will bring a needed spark with his experience and proven track record.

“Adding a player of Devin’s caliber certainly helps our special teams,” Bears head coach Matt Eberflus commented. “His experience and skills make him a valuable asset, and we’re eager to integrate him into our system.”

With the NFL offseason underway and training camps approaching, Duvernay’s arrival signifies the Bears’ commitment to improving on all fronts. More updates on the Bears’ roster changes and training camp developments are expected as the season approaches.
