BEDFORD, Mass. — In a brilliant display of skill, Bedford senior Alyx Rossi pitched a perfect game and hit two home runs in a 10-0 victory against Duxbury in the Division 2 softball tournament on Wednesday.

During the sixth inning, Rossi realized she was flirting with a perfect game. She remarked aloud that she had kept the opponents at bay for three consecutive innings, which made her nervous. “I got worried because I called it out,” Rossi said, adding that she knocked on her catcher’s helmet for good luck.

Rossi struck out 16 batters, marking her second perfect game of the season. The Boston College-bound pitcher has surpassed 900 career strikeouts and has led the third-seeded Buccaneers (19-1) to the brink of a state title for the first time since 1990.

“We’re all feeding off each other, celebrating each other, and picking each other up,” Rossi said, highlighting the team’s camaraderie as they progress through the tournament.

On the opposing side, Duxbury, the 19th seed, concluded a strong season with a record of 10-9, having secured their first tournament victory since 2013. Coach Mike Barba praised his team for their turnaround, saying, “It’s difficult to put into words the work that they put in. I’m super proud of them. The sky’s the limit going forward.”

The game also featured key contributions from Rossi’s teammates, including a two-run double by Kate Patterson and RBI singles from Alice Cooprider and Mia Vitti. “Yesterday, we ended practice a little early. I said anyone who wants to stay, we’ll do a little extra. She stayed for extra batting practice, and it paid off,” Bedford coach Dennis Walsh noted.

Next, Bedford faces sixth-seeded Tewksbury on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s quarterfinals, which Bedford won 2-0. The Buccaneers are determined to continue their postseason run as they aim for the finals. “We set a goal at the start of the year: finals or bust,” Walsh said.
