Ben Foakes Joins Elite England Wicketkeepers Club With 1000 Test Runs

England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes has joined an elite club as he crossed the milestone of 1000 runs in Test cricket. Foakes achieved this feat during the second Test against India at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

He was just 28 runs short of the landmark before the start of the second Test. In the first innings, Foakes made 6 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. However, in the second innings, he reached 22 and surpassed the 1000-run mark in the purest format of the game.

With this achievement, Foakes becomes the 12th England wicketkeeper in men’s cricket to accomplish this landmark. The illustrious list includes names like Alec Stewart, Alan Knott, Matt Prior, Jonny Bairstow, and Thomas Godfrey Evans among others.

During the second innings of the Visakhapatnam Test, Foakes impressed with his resilience. Despite England facing a tough target of 399, he displayed determination as the team found themselves in a difficult situation at 220 for 7 in 52 overs.

Foakes scored 36 runs off 69 balls, including four fours and one six, before falling victim to Jasprit Bumrah when he was looking set for a half-century.
