Ben Shelton Tennis Match

STUTTGART, Germany — Ben Shelton made a strong start in his campaign at the 2025 BOSS OPEN, defeating Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-6(4), 7-5 on Wednesday. His victory puts him on the path to breaking into the ATP‘s Top 10 for the first time if he continues to perform well.

Shelton, 22, saved all four break points he faced in the second set and converted his only break point in the 11th game to seal the match. “I’m really happy. Happy to get my first win here in Stuttgart,” Shelton said after the match. “I thought I played great in the big moments today down the stretch.”

With this win, Shelton moved up two spots to No. 10 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. He needs to outperform Daniil Medvedev this week to ensure he breaks the Top 10 by the next ranking update on Monday.

In other matches, eighth seed Jiri Lehecka secured his place in the quarter-finals after defeating home favorite 6-4, 7-5. Taylor Fritz, the second seed, also advanced by defeating his opponent 6-3, 7-6(6).

“I think just coming out and first game, he served, and I played a really good game to get a break,” Fritz reflected. The World No. 7 is back in Stuttgart for the fourth time and looks to improve upon his previous memories of the event.

Fritz will now take on also who secured his quarter-final match in a hard-fought contest earlier in the day.
