Ben Shelton Jannik Sinner Shanghai Masters 2024

Ben Shelton is set to challenge Jannik Sinner once again in the fourth round of the ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters, marking their second consecutive encounter at this event. This comes after Shelton’s recent victory over Roberto Carballes Baena, winning with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4. The American player did not face any break points and won 35 out of 38 first-serve points in what he described as probably his best serving day of the year.

“I thought I served extremely well, probably my best serving day this year,” Shelton stated. “I thought I did a good job capitalizing in big moments to get my breaks.”

Shelton previously defeated Sinner during their 2023 Shanghai meeting, but since then, Sinner has claimed victory in their last three matches. The Italian, now ranked as the world No. 1, has acquired two major titles alongside his top ranking. He defeated Shelton in straight sets during all three encounters, including their latest clash at Wimbledon.

Despite recent losses to Sinner, Shelton remains optimistic about the upcoming match. “Great memories from that match last year,” Shelton noted, recalling their previous encounter. “I’m really looking forward to it, that will be fun.”

Sinner’s current form presents a significant challenge, as he has not been eliminated before the quarterfinals in any event this year. “Obviously, huge serve and huge forehand. He has improved a lot, so hopefully I will be ready,” Sinner commented on facing Shelton.

Meanwhile, the seventh seed Taylor Fritz is set to face Holger Rune, both having advanced from their respective matches. Fritz defeated Yosuke Watanuki with a score of 6-3, 6-4, whereas Rune beat Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5. The upcoming matches at the 2024 Rolex Shanghai Masters promise an exciting display of tennis as the tournament progresses.
