Cincinnati Bengals Versus Indianapolis Colts Preseason

The Cincinnati Bengals will be resting their starters in the final preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, but the matchup remains crucial for many players seeking to make a strong impression.

A seventh-round pick in 2024, center Lee has impressed during Cincinnati’s preseason outings. The former Miami Hurricane took all the snaps at center last week in Chicago and did not allow any pressures while facing the Bears’ starters early in the game.

Lee will face the Colts’ starting defensive line for at least one drive, and he expressed confidence about his physical match-up. Bengals’ starting center Ted Karras acknowledged the rookie’s performance, stating, “He’s a guy that’s done all the right things enough to play his way onto an NFL roster.” Karras noted that having a talented player like Lee in the pipeline offers a sense of relief for the team.

As the Bengals continue to evaluate talent, Thursday presents one final chance for Lee to showcase his skills and secure a position on the 53-man roster.

The Bengals, as a team, currently hold the fourth-highest pass-blocking grade in the league this preseason, allowing only one sack across two games. This performance highlights the overall effectiveness of the offensive line.

Kicker Evan McPherson has secured his position with a contract extension until 2027. Meanwhile, rookie punter Ryan Rehkow from BYU is stepping in as punter and placeholder for McPherson’s kicks due to the injury of incumbent punter Drue Chrisman. Rehkow has performed admirably during the preseason, averaging 41.3 yards net and achieving a long punt of 59 yards.

Another undrafted rookie making notable contributions is linebacker David Njongmeta, who leads the NFL in solo tackles this preseason. Njongmeta’s performance places him in competition for a spot on the 53-man roster against other players in a crowded linebacker room.

Despite primarily fielding backups in their last game against the Bears, the Bengals’ defense displayed strong capabilities, limiting first overall pick Caleb Williams to just 75 yards and achieving a low passer rating. Cincinnati forced three consecutive three-and-outs at the start of the game, showcasing their defensive depth.

The Bengals are looking to improve their defensive performance from last season, and depth will be essential for their success. The upcoming matchup against the Colts will provide a crucial test for the team’s reserves.
