Cincinnati Bengals Alex Cappa Release News

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Cincinnati Bengals have announced the release of veteran guard Alex Cappa on March 3, 2025. The move comes as part of a strategy to improve salary cap flexibility for the upcoming season.

Cappa, who is entering his eighth year in the league, joined the Bengals as an unrestricted free agent in the 2022 offseason. Since then, he has played in all 50 regular-season games for Cincinnati, starting at right guard (RG) during that time.

The decision to cut Cappa is not entirely surprising, as his release provides significant financial relief to the team. By letting him go, the Bengals save approximately $8 million in cap space, which will be crucial for their offseason planning.

At 30 years old, Cappa was originally a third-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018 after playing college football at Humboldt State. He signed a four-year rookie deal worth $3,368,704, which included a $793,704 signing bonus and guaranteed money of the same amount with an average annual salary of $842,176.

In 2021, he secured a four-year contract with the Bengals valued at $40 million. Cappa was entering the final year of that deal, which would have paid him a base salary of $8 million for the 2025 season.

During the 2024 season, Cappa was a key contributor on the offensive line, starting in all 17 games. However, his performance was rated modestly, as evaluations placed him as the No. 71 guard out of 77 qualifying players.

The Bengals now face the challenge of reshaping their offensive line as they move forward into the offseason. Fans and analysts will be closely monitoring further roster changes as the team strategizes for the upcoming season.
