Bengals Defensive Tackle Signing Nfl News

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Cincinnati Bengals have strengthened their defensive line by signing defensive tackle Slaton to a two-year contract valued at $15 million. The announcement came on March 10, 2025, as the team continues to enhance its roster during free agency.

Slaton, who was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has played 68 games, with 36 of those as a starter. The 6-foot-4, 330-pound lineman started every game last season, tallying 30 tackles, one sack, three quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss.

Evaluating a nose tackle’s performance can be challenging, as their primary role is to occupy multiple blockers. Nonetheless, the Bengals have identified this position as a crucial gap needing attention. The terms of Slaton’s contract provide flexibility for the team, minimizing potential dead cap space should the agreement falter.

In terms of performance metrics, Slaton finished the 2023 season with a 62.3 grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF), slightly up from his 61.7 rating in 2022. His former team, the Green Bay Packers, concluded the 2024 season ranked seventh in rushing yards allowed per game and third in yards per carry permitted.

This signing follows closely on the heels of the Bengals securing a three-year contract with BJ Hill, ensuring their defensive line remains robust with up to $33 million allocated in total cash. Slaton is expected to compete with McKinnley Jackson for playing time at the nose tackle position.

The Bengals’ latest moves reflect a proactive strategy to enhance their interior defensive line, an area where they recognized a need for additional talent. As the team gears up for the upcoming season, fan reactions and discussions around these free agency signings are already buzzing.
