College Basketball Games March 2025

CHICAGO, Ill. — College basketball takes center stage on March 5, with pivotal matchups in both the Big Ten and Big East conferences, featuring teams aiming for better positioning as the season winds down.

In the Big Ten, the Wisconsin Badgers (22-7, 12-6) will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers (15-14, 7-11) tonight. Wisconsin looks to bounce back from a tough 71-62 loss to Michigan State. Following a strong second half by the Spartans, the Badgers will aim to regain momentum on their home court.

“We need to be tougher and finish games,” said Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard. “Every game is critical this time of year.” Minnesota, on the other hand, is riding high after a slim 67-65 victory against Nebraska, where Brennan Rigsby scored 20 points off the bench.

Both teams are in desperate need of a win to boost their standings, especially with postseason play approaching. Analysts expect a closely contested game, and predictions suggest keeping an eye on the odds, with advantage slightly tilting towards the Badgers at home.

Meanwhile, the Big East will see the Marquette Golden Eagles (22-7, 13-5) visiting the UConn Huskies (20-9, 12-6) at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. Marquette is looking to consolidate its position after a 76-61 win over Georgetown, looking to tie for second in the conference with Creighton.

“Every game is a stepping stone for us,” said Marquette coach Shaka Smart. “We need to focus on playing our game and executing effectively.” UConn is also in good form, with a recent 75-63 win over Providence marking their second straight victory.

With UConn boasting an impressive 12-2 home record this season, Marquette’s road struggles present added intrigue to their upcoming clash, particularly as both programs eye the postseason. Expert predictions lean toward a defensive battle, with the total set at 144.5.

Meanwhile, in another Big Ten matchup, the Washington Huskies (13-16, 4-14) are set to take on the USC Trojans (14-15, 6-12) in Los Angeles. The Trojans aim to snap a frustrating five-game losing streak after suffering an 82-61 defeat at Oregon. Rashaun Agee notably led USC with 29 points in the last outing, but the team needs more support from the bench, which contributed just four points last game.

Washington, stuck at the bottom of the Big Ten standings, hopes to turn around their fortunes despite facing a challenging season. Head coach Mike Hopkins acknowledged, “It hasn’t gone how we wanted, but we need to keep competing.”

With critical games across different conferences, fans and analysts alike are gearing up for an evening of exciting college basketball action.
