As the college football season progresses, the Big Ten Conference is seeing some clear leaders emerge in the power rankings for Week 9. Here’s a breakdown of the top teams and their recent performances.
Ohio State remains at the top of the rankings, despite a close loss to Oregon in their last game. The Buckeyes, with a current record of 5-1, are projected to finish the season 11-1 and are ranked No. 1 in both the AP and coaches’ polls. Oregon, now 7-0, has solidified its position as the second-best team in the Big Ten. The Ducks had a dominant 35-0 win over Purdue and are projected to go undefeated this season. They face Illinois on October 26 at 3:30 PM ET on CBS.
Indiana is another undefeated team, standing at 7-0 and ranked No. 3 in the power rankings. The Hoosiers had a convincing 56-7 win over Nebraska and are yet to trail in any game this season. Their next match is against Washington on October 26 at 12:00 PM ET on the Big Ten Network.
Penn State, with a 6-0 record, follows closely behind. The Nittany Lions secured a 33-30 win over USC and are projected to finish 10-2. They will face Wisconsin on October 26 at 7:30 PM ET on NBC.
Wisconsin, currently 5-2, rounds out the top five. The Badgers had a strong defensive performance in their 23-3 win over Northwestern. They host Penn State on October 26 at 7:30 PM ET on NBC.
Iowa, despite a loss to Michigan State, remains in the sixth position with a 4-3 record. The Hawkeyes will look to bounce back against Northwestern on October 26 at 3:30 PM ET on the Big Ten Network.
Other notable teams include USC, which suffered a loss to Maryland, and Michigan State, which upset Iowa. Maryland’s exciting win over USC has kept them in contention, while USC faces Rutgers on October 25 at 10:00 PM ET on FOX.
