Billboard Canada Names Woman of the Year 2024
Billboard Canada Women of the Year is scheduled to take place on September 7, 2024, where the Woman of the Year has been announced as a Montreal artist. She is the first Canadian artist to receive this prestigious award, joining other notable recipients from previous years.
Since the release of her second full-length album, 99 Nights, a year ago, this singer-songwriter has achieved significant milestones, including two EP releases, multiple chart-topping hits, and an international career surge that has taken her from the NBA All-Star game to performing for U.S. President Joe Biden.
While currently on a world tour that spans North America and Europe, she is entering a new phase in her career, which undeniably establishes her as a global artist. In a recent interview, she expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity to share her music internationally, stating, ‘Being able to export my music makes me feel so good.’
99 Nights stayed on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart for an impressive 31 weeks. Additionally, her pop single ‘Confetti’ debuted on the U.S. Billboard Adult Pop Airplay chart, remaining there for 16 weeks. The track also featured prominently on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
Although she primarily sings in English, this artist represents a rare Francophone Quebec voice, making her way through the music industry in both Canada and the United States, following in the footsteps of earlier artists.
The upcoming award ceremony will see her travel from Europe to Toronto to accept the award and perform a special piano-led presentation. She will be accompanied by another legendary Canadian artist who is set to receive the Icon Award.
Among the honorees at the ceremony will also be artists like Jully Black, who will accept the Trailblazer Award, and The Beaches, who are recognized as the Group of the Year.
Additionally, there will be various performances featuring award winners and other prominent artists in the industry, as Billboard Canada continues to celebrate the achievements of women in music.
