ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman was a healthy scratch for the team’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday after being late to a team meeting on Friday, according to coach Sean McDermott.

This marked the first time in Coleman’s career that he was a healthy scratch. Coleman was a full participant in practice during the week and has had a productive season with 32 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns, but his absence was due to disciplinary reasons.

“Just got to be better,” Coleman stated after the game. “You can’t make those types of mistakes. You’re a professional.” He expressed disappointment over his situation, noting that he needs to learn and grow from this experience.

Earlier in the season, Coleman was benched for the first series of a game against the New England Patriots after similar disciplinary issues. He also sat out the first quarter of a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars last year for being late. McDermott emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, “He knows he’s accountable to his teammates. We expect more, and he has shown growth this year, he has.”

With Coleman sidelined, the Bills elevated Gabe Davis from the practice squad to strengthen their receiving corps. Davis returned to the field for the first time since suffering a torn meniscus last November while with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Another addition was wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who was signed to the active roster this week.

As a response to Coleman’s absence, the Bills were looking to improve their inconsistent passing game. Left tackle Dion Dawkins mentioned, “Now, he’s in the hot seat, and he needs to come on and show up for us. The past is over with, and it’s time for him to grow up, and he knows it.”

The Bills have been struggling lately, having lost three of their last five games. Coleman will need to refocus if he wants to return to the field effectively. McDermott remains optimistic about Coleman, believing that he has the potential to turn things around and grow from this setback.
