Connor Bedard Chicago Blackhawks Practice 2025

Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson has opened up about the future of star player Connor Bedard and the team’s long-term vision. In a recent interview with Sportsnet‘s Elliotte Friedman, Davidson emphasized Bedard’s commitment to the organization’s rebuild and his curiosity about the team’s prospects.

Davidson revealed that Bedard, the 2023 first overall draft pick, is more interested in the development of the Blackhawks’ up-and-coming players than in current NHL stars. “He’ll ask how some of the prospects are doing and how they’re looking,” Davidson said. “Because he’s formed relationships with these players either at training camps or development camps or the draft.”

The Blackhawks have struggled in recent years, finishing 23-53-6 in Bedard’s rookie season and currently holding a 13-25-2 record this year. Despite the team’s poor performance, Davidson insists that Bedard is aligned with the organization’s vision. “Yes, yes. That’s the most important thing. I don’t want to be in 32nd place,” Davidson said. “He doesn’t want to be in 32nd place, no one does.”

Davidson also addressed the team’s efforts to improve, noting that they are always exploring opportunities to push the rebuild forward. “We’re always open and seeing what’s available and what could be done in terms of trying to push things forward in a different way,” he said.

Bedard, who leads the team with 35 points in 40 games, has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season. However, the Blackhawks’ lack of surrounding talent has raised questions about how long Bedard will remain patient with the rebuild. Davidson acknowledged the challenges but remains committed to the long-term plan.

The Blackhawks’ focus on building chemistry among their prospects has been a key part of their strategy. Davidson highlighted the team’s development camps, which emphasize bonding and team-building activities. “There’s an ‘us’ mentality in the Blackhawks’ prospect pipeline that’s unique,” he said.

As the Blackhawks continue their rebuild, all eyes will be on Davidson’s next moves to ensure Bedard and the team can rise from the bottom of the NHL standings.
