TORONTO – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers faced another tough day on the field after losing 16-14 in overtime to the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field. With this loss, their season record slips to 2-6, leaving fans anxious for a turnaround.

The game was tough for the Bombers, who turned the ball over five times. They had chances to claim victory, but failed to convert a crucial third-and-one from the Argos’ 22-yard line with just under a minute left. Their chance slipped through when Sergio Castillo missed a 41-yard field goal in overtime, allowing the Argonauts to secure a win with a 34-yard kick from Lirim Hajrullahu.

Running back Brady Oliveira spoke about the team’s performance, emphasizing the need to improve. “We need to take care of the football, that’s first and foremost. It’s frustrating because we know we can win games,” he said, stressing that everyone needs to look in the mirror and demand more from themselves.

Head coach Mike O’Shea expressed his disappointment as well, noting the mistakes that kept the team from winning. He admitted to taking risks that didn’t pay off, and acknowledged the need for the players to learn from their errors. “Just tell them to pick themselves up. We’ve got to go to work,” he said.

Despite their struggles, the Bombers’ defense managed to keep the Argonauts in check, limiting them to only 205 yards of total offense. Quarterback Zach Collaros threw for 317 yards, but also faced issues with ball security, which he admitted was a problem throughout the season.

The game ended with the Bombers having negative turnover ratios. After last week’s loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a -3 turnover count, they now stand at -8 for the season. With a challenging schedule ahead, the players are urged to regroup and tackle the upcoming games with renewed focus.

The Blue Bombers are set to return home after two games on the road to face the B.C. Lions on August 1st, hoping to turn their fortunes around in front of their home crowd.
