Blue Jays Suffer Injury Setback Ahead of Game Against Athletics

TORONTO, Canada — The Toronto Blue Jays made several roster changes on Sunday, June 1, 2025, after placing outfielder Daulton Varsho on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Varsho experienced pain while attempting to stretch a double into a triple during Saturday’s game, prompting immediate medical attention.
Manager John Schneider confirmed Varsho’s injury occurred when he felt a sharp pain, consequently resulting in his exit from the game. “After the MRI, it became clear we needed to put him on the IL to ensure a full recovery,” Schneider said.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays recalled utility player Davis Schneider from Triple-A Buffalo. Schneider, who had previously been sent down, is viewed as a potential asset to the team, having recently showcased improved hitting statistics in the minors, including a .741 OPS this season.
Erik Swanson was also activated from the 60-day injured list, signaling his anticipated return to the mound. Swanson’s injury stemmed from a median nerve entrapment, which had sidelined him for part of the season. Despite a challenging rehab process, he is expected to contribute effectively to the bullpen.
A recent standout for the Blue Jays, Bo Bichette, is enjoying a successful streak, hitting three home runs over a week with a .280 batting average. He recently celebrated his 100th career home run, becoming the first Blue Jays shortstop to reach the milestone.
The team is currently enjoying a four-game winning streak, with expectations high as they face the Athletics later today. Schneider noted the roster changes are optimistic, stating, “It’s an opportunity for us to adjust and keep our momentum going.”
