Bobrovsky’s Unique Routine Drives Panthers to Eastern Conference Final

RALEIGH, N.C. — On the morning of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final, Sergei Bobrovsky, the Florida Panthers’ goaltender, was not following the typical pre-game routine for a player about to take part in a crucial match. Instead of resting, the 36-year-old hit the gym for Olympic weightlifting, displaying his commitment to fitness.
Observers were surprised as Bobrovsky lifted weights high above his head in a tight shirt, showcasing his impressive physique. Teammate A.J. Greer noted, “It’s just amazing to watch him do it day in and day out.” Greer’s words capture the admiration his teammates have for Bobrovsky’s relentless work ethic.
Head coach Paul Maurice recounted a moment from the 2022-23 season when he first witnessed Bobrovsky’s unusual regimen. Initially alarmed, he quickly learned it was part of Bobrovsky’s established routine, which he has developed over his career. “Bob’s routine is built over his entire career,” Maurice said. “There’s not a big shift in what he does.”
Former teammate Brian Boucher also spoke highly of Bobrovsky, recalling their time together on the Philadelphia Flyers. “I couldn’t believe his work ethic,” said Boucher. “He was there all day, stretching forever.” Boucher emphasized that Bobrovsky’s commitment to training has contributed to his lasting success as a top-tier goalie.
Bobrovsky himself downplayed the focus on his lifting, stating, “I just try to do my best to prepare myself for the game.” Despite his humble approach, his teammates recognize the positive energy he brings to the team. Defenseman Gustav Forsling noted, “He always gives you energy when you see him.”
As the Panthers moved closer to another Stanley Cup Final appearance, Bobrovsky’s dedication appeared vital. His career numbers in conference finals include the NHL’s lowest goals-against average, cementing his title as “Big Game Bob.”
With Florida leading the series against the Carolina Hurricanes at 3-1, confidence abounds. As the team looks to make history with a third straight finals appearance, Bobrovsky stands at the center of their aspirations, both as a player and a leader.
