Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty Wins Prestigious Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award
BOISE, Idaho — Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty added another accolade to his impressive 2024 season on Wednesday, winning the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. The award honors the nation’s most outstanding Division I offensive player with ties to Texas, either through high school graduation or college attendance.
Jeanty, a junior from Frisco, Texas, became the first Boise State player to receive the award, which recognizes excellence on the field and embodies the characteristics of integrity, teamwork, and tenacity exemplified by NFL legend Earl Campbell. The announcement was made during a banquet in Tyler, Texas, on Jan. 22.
“I’m honored to present the award to Ashton Jeanty,” Campbell said. “All of these players had incredible seasons. They all deserved their place as a finalist. We were glad to celebrate all of them tonight and award Ashton as the winner.”
Jeanty, a product of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, capped off a historic season with 2,601 rushing yards, the second-highest total in FBS history. He finished his Boise State career with a school-record 4,769 rushing yards, 22 100-yard games, and eight 200-yard performances. He also led the FBS with 2,750 all-purpose yards and set College Football Playoff-era records with 1,970 yards after contact and 164 forced missed tackles.
In addition to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, Jeanty became Boise State’s first unanimous All-American and the first Bronco to win both the Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award. He was also named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
The award’s other finalists included quarterbacks Bryson Daily (Army), Kevin Jennings (SMU), Shedeur Sanders (Colorado), and Cam Ward (Miami). Jeanty is the 12th player and fourth running back to win the award, joining past recipients like Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II (2023), Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins (2019), and Texas’ D'Onta Foreman (2016).
Jeanty now turns his attention to the 2025 NFL Draft, where he is expected to be a top prospect. His record-breaking career at Boise State has solidified his place as one of the program’s all-time greats.
