Boise State Broncos Football Team Celebration

Boise State University‘s football team has made a significant leap in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, securing the fourth and final bye in the upcoming playoffs. As of Tuesday night’s rankings, Boise State climbed to the 12th position, edging out Brigham Young University (BYU) for the coveted bye spot.

The College Football Playoff committee ranked Boise State 12th, but due to their conference standing, they were slotted into the fourth and final bye. This development follows BYU’s first loss of the season, which resulted in an eight-spot drop in the rankings. The top-ranked team, Oregon, maintained its position after a thrilling comeback against Wisconsin, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter to win 16-13.

The rankings also saw other significant shifts, with Ohio State holding the second spot, followed by Texas from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Miami, from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), was ranked eighth but secured the third seed and a bye. BYU, despite its drop, still managed to secure the last spot in the 12-team bracket as the fifth-best conference leader.

The SEC continues to have a strong presence in the rankings, with Georgia returning to the 10th spot, Alabama at 7th, and Ole Miss at 9th. All three of these teams, along with Tennessee, have two losses but benefit from the SEC’s strong strength of schedule.
