PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Phoenix Suns are turning to Bol Bol for his first start as power forward in Tuesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Footprint Center, marking his 60th game with the franchise. Bol’s last starting role was with the Orlando Magic on April 6, 2023.
After scoring 19 and 12 points in his previous two games, Bol is coming off his first double-digit performances of the season, showcasing an uptick in offensive contributions. He logged over 55 minutes in those two matches, a significant increase from the total of 85 minutes he played in the previous 14 games. Additionally, he registered 10 rebounds and seven blocks during that stretch.
Coach Mike Budenholzer praised Bol’s recent growth, stating, “He’s really kind of grown or developed into a really tough cover… impressed with how he’s grown on the offensive end of the court and [it’s a] big challenge for us tonight.” The matchup against Memphis presents unique challenges, particularly with Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey manning the frontcourt.
The Suns (27-26) are facing increasing pressure as they sit 11th in the Western Conference, needing to capitalize on their home advantage. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies (35-17) currently hold the second seed, riding a strong momentum after winning eight of their last ten games.
Phoenix’s roster is complicated by ongoing injuries, with star guard Bradley Beal sidelined due to a toe sprain, marking his third consecutive absence. The Suns are also without Cody Martin (sports hernia) and Vasilije Micic (ankle). However, Grayson Allen appears set to return from left knee soreness, providing a potential boost.
<p“Getting Durant back is a step in the right direction, but Beal being out is still frustrating,” said a Suns analyst. “Overall, every single win matters right now, and taking down the second-seeded Grizzlies would be a massive confidence boost.”
Though the Suns’ injury situation presents challenges, they will rely on the scoring prowess of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Durant returns after missing three games due to an ankle sprain, expressing his eagerness to return. “I feel good… it’s good to get back on the floor,” he stated during practice.
The Suns’ recent inconsistency is concerning, especially after a recent 122-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets. They must rally their strength against the formidable Grizzlies, who will be without Cam Spencer (thumb) and Marvin Bagley III (knee), alongside Johnny Davis (non-injury related absence).
The tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on TNT and truTV, with fans able to stream via Max, NBA League Pass, and FuboTV.
