Bolder Boulder Returns with 50,000 Registrants Amid Weather Concerns

The 45th Bolder Boulder is set to take place on Memorial Day, marking a milestone with 50,000 registrants for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic halted the race in 2020 and 2021. The race director, Cliff Bosley, announced this achievement at a pre-race conference on Sunday, noting the significant increase from previous years.
“We’re excited to see participation levels return to normal,” Bosley said, acknowledging the surge in registrations leading up to the event.
The weather forecast is drawing comparisons to the conditions during the race’s record-setting day in 1995, which featured cool and overcast weather. The former Colorado standout, Alan Culpepper, noted this similarity in his comments prior to the race. Both record times set by Josphat Machuka and Delillah Asiago still stand 30 years later.
Competitors, including two-time defending champion Conner Mantz, are anticipating a fast-paced race. Mantz, who recently excelled at the Boston Marathon, expressed his hopes for a third consecutive victory. “Bolder Boulder is so iconic. A three-peat would be huge,” Mantz said.
Aidan Reed and Drew Hunter, fellow runners competing in the men’s USA White team, shared their enthusiasm for the race. “We learned a lot from Aidan, who has raced here before, and it gave us good insight,” Hunter said. The camaraderie among participants highlights the event’s community spirit.
Despite concerns that rain may affect last-minute registrations, the enthusiasm for the race remains high. The last-minute additions typically range around 1,000 entries, as runners are eager to participate in this beloved event that combines competitive spirit with a communal celebration.
As the anticipation builds, the Bolder Boulder is ready to embrace its history and the dedicated athletes who make it possible. With a successful return to form expected, all eyes will be on Folsom Field as runners take to the course on Monday.
