Boston Celtics Aim for Redemption in Game 2 Against Knicks

BOSTON — The Boston Celtics are looking to bounce back in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks after a surprising loss in their series opener. The game is set for Wednesday night at TD Garden, where the Celtics hope to safeguard their home court advantage.
In Game 1, the Celtics fell short with a final score of 108-105, emphasizing their struggle with shot selection and defensive lapses. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla‘s strategy was met with criticism as his team set an NBA playoff record by attempting 60 three-pointers but making only 15.
Celtics center Al Horford addressed the media, stating, “We have to make sure we protect home. We weren’t able to do it in the first game. Now with the second game, we have a great opportunity in front of us.”
Despite establishing a 20-point lead in the third quarter, the Celtics lost control by abandoning their offensive structure in favor of a reckless three-point shooting spree. Mazzulla acknowledged the need for adjustments, particularly in creating opportunities for drives to the basket.
“Whatever gives us the best chance to win, that’s what we’ll do,” Mazzulla said, hinting at possible changes to the game plan. The return of Kristaps Porzingis, who sat out much of Game 1 due to illness, adds additional depth to the Celtics’ lineup.
On the other hand, the Knicks, buoyed by their Game 1 victory, intend to maintain their momentum. Players like Jalen Brunson have made it clear that the Celtics’ regular-season dominance over New York won’t impact their playoff mindset.
Horford emphasized the need for the Celtics to adjust: “We all understand the opportunity that we have in front of us going into Game 2… we have to be better — plainly. That’s just the way it is.”
The Celtics’ shooting woes are a significant concern moving forward, but there remains belief within the organization that they can turn things around in the series. As Game 2 approaches, fans are eager to see if Boston can recover from their unexpected defeat.
