Boston Celtics Sign Lonnie Walker IV to Exhibit 10 Contract
The Boston Celtics have officially filled their final roster spot by signing guard Lonnie Walker IV to an Exhibit 10 contract. This non-guaranteed deal essentially serves as a training camp invitation, allowing Walker the opportunity to compete for a place on the team.
Walker, who is entering his seventh season in the NBA, previously played for the Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 9.7 points per game during the last season. With a shooting percentage of 38.4 percent from three-point range, he brings valuable long-range capability to the Celtics’ roster.
A former first-round pick by the San Antonio Spurs in 2018, Walker has compiled a career average of 9.8 points per game, shooting 42.2 percent overall and 35.6 percent from beyond the arc. At 25 years old, he still has ample room for development and is now positioned to potentially contribute valuable minutes off the bench.
The addition of Walker could lead to increased competition during training camp. However, it may also signify the end of Oshae Brissett’s tenure with the team, as Walker is the only free-agent signing this offseason. The Celtics have opted to retain the core of their championship roster from last season, with Brissett and Svi Mykhailuk being the notable exceptions.
Executive Brad Stevens continues to enhance the team’s roster as the Celtics aim to defend their title. Currently, the team holds 14 guaranteed contracts, leaving a spot open for Walker to demonstrate his skills and potentially secure a place on the final squad.
