Boston College Eagles Dominate Old Dominion in Cayman Islands Classic Opener

Boston College cruised to a decisive 82-52 victory over Old Dominion in the opening game of the Cayman Islands Classic held in George Town, Grand Cayman, on Sunday night. The Eagles’ dominant performance was highlighted by Donald Hand Jr.’s third double-double of the season, where he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Hand also set a career high with four assists in the game.

The team’s bench contributed significantly, with Fred Payne adding 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Roger McFarlane led the Eagles with 11 rebounds and five assists, marking his 22nd career game with double figures in rebounding. The Eagles’ balanced attack saw 14 players participate, with 10 different players scoring at least six points.

In the first half, Boston College built a substantial lead through a series of key runs. Chas Kelley III’s early 3-pointers and a 12-2 run helped the Eagles establish a 19-11 lead. A layup by Chad Venning and back-to-back 3-pointers from Fred Payne and Joshua Beadle further extended their advantage. By the end of the first half, the Eagles had a 19-point lead at 43-24.

The second half saw Old Dominion briefly close the gap to 14 points, but Boston College responded with an 18-4 run, capped by a Jayden Hastings dunk, to make it 70-41 with 9:06 remaining. The Eagles maintained a 30-point margin for the rest of the game, connecting on 5-of-11 from beyond the arc in the second half while limiting Old Dominion to 1-of-11 from 3-point range.

Boston College will face Missouri State in the second round of the Cayman Islands Classic on Monday night. The game will be streamed on FloCollege and broadcast on WEEI 850 AM. Missouri State previously defeated High Point 71-61 in their opening game.
