Boston College QB Grayson James Prepares for Exciting Second Year

BOSTON, Mass. — Boston College football quarterback Grayson James is gearing up for his second season with the Eagles following a noteworthy first year. After transferring from Florida International University (FIU) during the offseason, the Duncanville, Texas, native faced an uphill battle as he began the 2024 season recovering from injury.
James initially served as a backup to Thomas Castellanos but gained invaluable experience as the Eagles achieved their first seven-win regular season since 2018, culminating in a bowl game appearance. Statistically, James showcased his skills, completing 106 of 166 passes for 1,202 yards, recording six touchdowns against two interceptions, and rushing for 79 yards and three touchdowns on 37 attempts.
On Tuesday, James reflected on his mindset as he approaches his sophomore year. “I would just say the biggest thing is just continuity within this offense has just been huge for me,” he stated. “My confidence level is as high as it’s ever been since I’ve been here, so that’s good. I feel like it’s translated to the field. I’m just operating, just playing smooth, calm football as well, just trying to be the best quarterback for this team, and getting us to operate as smooth as possible.”
James also observed positive developments within the team, especially among younger players. “I say we’ve definitely had some good development, just seeing these young guys come along,” he explained. “We’ve got some new guys in here as well making plays, but I think it’s good to see. I know I’m excited; this whole team is. We’re just worried about getting better every day.”
Two newcomers to the Eagles’ quarterback room are freshman Shaker Reisig, a three-star prospect from this year’s recruiting class, and former Alabama quarterback Dylan Lonergan. James expressed enthusiasm about the team’s chemistry as they continue spring practices. “It’s been awesome,” he remarked. “I love being around those guys. I feel like we have a good camaraderie already. I mean, everybody in our room is talented from top to bottom as well. Shaker, Dylan, Jacobe, love all those guys.”
He added, “They’re smart football minds so we’re constantly pushing each other whether on the field or in the meeting rooms as well. So I’d say just as a whole, our room is very talented and we’re all looking forward to pushing each other all spring and summer.”
Boston College’s spring practices are set to continue Thursday morning as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
